About This Course

3D printing technology has paved the way for countless inventions—from advanced stop-motion puppets in Coraline to custom prosthetic limbs for athletes. Dive deep into Blender, a powerful 3D modeling and animation software used by industry creatives. You’ll invent and model your own designs, like functional desk organizers or imaginative characters. Then, transform them into tactile prints! Create keychains, fidget toys, collectible pets, or build an articulated reptile with movable parts. Plug in your 3D models and watch them come to life layer by layer on the print bed! Once they’ve cooled off, add the final touches with 3D printing tools, sandpaper, and colorful paint markers. At the end of the week, you’ll take home your entire collection of 3D prints.

You'll learn to:

  • Design and print tactile 3D objects to take home
  • Create 3D designs in Blender using modeling and sculpting tools
  • Model custom prints like keychains, characters, and articulated toys
  • Learn how to maintain the printer and troubleshoot complex print jobs

Course Format 

This 3D modeling camp is part of a weeklong summer course running Monday through Friday. Learning sessions will be held in a lab on an inspiring university campus. Your child will be placed within a small group and guided by an experienced instructor. Daily schedules are balanced and allow for outdoor and recreational activities. Day and overnight options are available based on location.

Sample Schedule

Here’s a sample of what a week in this course could look like. Keep in mind students will progress at varying paces, and this is meant to serve as an outline of key materials and the overall experience. 

Ready, set, print! Students will learn the fundamentals of 3D printing, including how to install filament, set up the 3D printer, troubleshoot errors, and begin a test print. Then, they’ll switch gears to Blender and learn the basics of 3D modeling by building a character with primitives, such as a snowman.

Next, students will dive deeper into 3D modeling techniques in Blender, using more advanced tools to design a room. They’ll learn how to identify and fix problems with their 3D meshes, including n-gons. Then, students will prep a custom print—such as their snowman, dice, or articulated toy—using Orca-Flashforge.

Lions, tigers, Labubus—oh my! Students will model characters from their imagination, like desk pets or collectible toys. They’ll explore sculpting and advanced modeling tools to design unique creations. Then, they’ll bring their character to life on the print bed.

In preparation for the showcase, students will finalize their projects and print their imaginative designs. They’ll create a collection of all their prints—from wearable bangles and necklaces to figurines, articulated toys, and fidget toys!

To wrap up, students will polish their prints with sanding tools and add a splash of color with paint and markers! They’ll set up an art gallery for the final showcase for family and friends to enjoy. At the end of the day, all students’ prints will go home with them!

While we are a tech program with the goal of transforming your child’s interests into real-world STEM skills, we are also a summer camp. Simply put, camp is a balance of learning and fun! Students learn in small groups in labs on a prestigious college campus and from expert instructors who are trained to inspire and engage.

Day camps kick off with icebreakers and team-building before jumping into coursework for most of the morning. When it’s time for lunch, your child will walk from the computer lab to the dining hall as they take in the beauty of campus. Students return to the learning labs in the afternoon for more coursework, followed by an afternoon break where they will have the chance to take part in outdoor game time and more campus discovery before wrapping up with instruction!

Overnighters work until dinner, and are then off to create deeper connections and memories while gaming, watching movies, and more. All together, days and nights are filled with learning and adventure that builds lifelong friendships. 

Yes, this course is designed for beginner to intermediate students. Our small class size ensures that each student receives individual attention and has the freedom to learn at their own pace. Instructors are trained to be in tune with students’ unique needs and provide a personalized learning experience. 

In addition to valuable tech skills, kids and teens leave camp with new relationships, resilience, critical thinking opportunities, and an even greater love for tech (if that’s possible!).

At the conclusion of your child's course, they will receive an iD Tech diploma as well as a transcript outlining everything they learned over the week. They’ll also take home an iD Tech t-shirt and a USB with their course project files, along with access to installation and setup guides so they can continue working at their own pace.

Yes! Every iD Tech experience contributes toward leveling up along the iD Tech Pathway. This course is worth 1,500 XP— learn more about the iD Tech Pathway here.

Yes! You can register today for as little as $375 per student, and pay the balance in convenient monthly installments. You can save $50 by registering for multiple sessions, and you can earn $25 in credit for each new friend referral (your friend saves $25 when they sign up too!). 

As courses frequently sell out, we recommend registering early to secure your child's spot. You can make unlimited changes with no fees up to 28 days before the start of your session. If you need to cancel before March 1st, you will receive a full refund of the amount paid. If you cancel after March 1st but still 28+ days before your session, you will receive a refund less the payment plan fee (if applicable) and the $375 per week deposit. Within 28 days of your session start date, changes are subject to a fee and no refunds are provided for cancellations.

If your child will be bringing a phone to camp, they’ll be able to access their device to update you on their adventures and take selfies with their new friends during break times.

While many kids can’t stop talking about their days at camp, others are kids of few words. Our camp staff are here to help, taking pictures of campers in action! Our photos page is regularly updated to showcase all of the fun taking place at camp.

During our Friday Family Showcase, loved ones get to see their camper’s final project while interacting with camp staff and learning about the week, skills gained, and more.
