Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning Camp

  • Price: Starting at $1,199
  • Age: Ages 13-17
  • Skill Level: Intermediate-Advanced
  • Format: iD Tech Camps | Small-Group, On-Campus
  • Duration: Weeklong program, 8 hours per day

About This Course

Machine learning has introduced many of today’s greatest technological advancements, including object recognition. From self-driving cars to home security systems with intruder detection, data scientists can help make the world a safer place.

You’ll take a look under the hood at how AI systems are built and machine learning models are trained. Develop your own system to recognize images, like categorizing mammals or identifying Pokémon. Begin with Python essentials, then launch into neural network training—you’ll build a model that decodes hand gestures and other video input in real-time. Utilize principal datasets like TensorFlow and Kaggle to design advanced detection projects, such as a Pictionary game where your AI companion solves clues as you draw them! At the end of the week, you’ll collect your work into a comprehensive machine learning portfolio fit for a college application. Your pursuit of a career in artificial intelligence could start here!

AI Usage
Students will utilize industry-leading image recognition datasets as they build AI systems and explore machine learning concepts.

You'll learn to:

  • Build machine learning models with Python code
  • Train a model to identify and categorize images, objects, or handwriting
  • Use professional datasets like TensorFlow and Kaggle
  • Learn the fundamentals of neural networks, including data aggregation
  • Develop a portfolio of AI and machine learning projects

Camp Format

This course is part of a weeklong machine learning summer camp running Monday through Friday. Learning sessions will be held in a lab on an inspiring university campus. Your child will be placed within a small group and guided by an experienced instructor. Daily schedules are balanced and allow for outdoor and recreational activities. Day and overnight options are available based on location.

Sample Schedule

Here’s a sample of what a week in this artificial intelligence and machine learning course could look like. Keep in mind students will progress at varying paces, and this is meant to serve as an outline of key materials and the overall experience.

Students will learn the fundamentals of Python programming through concepts such as conditional statements, loops, functions, etc. They’ll create console-based projects to test their knowledge and explore Python libraries.

Dive into machine learning and neural networks! Students will learn how to create a machine learning model, using the real-world MNIST dataset to classify handwritten digits. Then, they’ll experiment with and create their own convolutional neural networks.

Building on their knowledge, students will explore more datasets like CIFAR-10 to perform image recognition tasks like classifying handwriting and images. This will extend to examining the Quick, Draw! dataset to recognize drawn images, both digitally and in real time. Finally, students will begin creating their final project using a dataset of their choice!

Students will create a customized network to analyze a Kaggle dataset of their choice. They’ll develop, iterate, and polish their final project.

To wrap up, students will put the finishing touches on their networks and test their efficiency, demonstrating the skills they’ve cultivated throughout the week.

Portfolio-Boosting Diploma & Transcript

At the conclusion of your child's course, they will receive an official iD Tech diploma and course transcript outlining the skills they learned over the course of the week.

While we are a tech program with the goal of transforming your child’s interests into real-world STEM skills, we are also a summer camp. Simply put, AI camp is a balance of learning and fun! Students learn in small groups in labs on a prestigious college campus and from expert instructors who are trained to inspire and engage.

Day camps kick off with icebreakers and team-building before jumping into coursework for most of the morning. When it’s time for lunch, kids will walk from the computer lab to the dining hall as they take in the beauty of campus. Students return to the learning labs in the afternoon for more coursework, followed by an afternoon break where they will have the chance to take part in outdoor game time and more campus discovery before wrapping up with instruction!

Overnighters work until dinner, and are then off to create deeper connections and memories while gaming, watching movies, and more. All together, days and nights are filled with learning and adventure that builds lifelong friendships.
