New York has recently become a vibrant STEM community, thanks to a number of STEM education focused initiatives, and a concerted effort to change the future STEM landscape. In fact, there will be 40,000 new STEM positions available by 2020 in New York City alone.

  • In the state of New York, those working in STEM earn $75,700 median salary per year. That figure is 85% more than all other workers in the state ($40,870). For more information on careers in STEM in NY, refer to this fact sheet.
  • Looking for the best STEM high schools in New York? As named by US News & World Report, Stuyvesant High School in Manhattan, State Island Technical High School, Bronx High School of Science, High School for Mathematics, Science, and Engineering at City College, and Queens High School for the Sciences at York College round out the top five.
  • New York museums are doing all they can to get kids into STEM. The New York Transit Museum currently hosts a “Get Kinetic” workshop, where kids and teens can get up close and personal with speed and motion, and learning the physics that powers it all. This program is one of 125 STEM related programs offered every single year. Larger organizations like the New York Hall of Science puts on over 450 STEM programs!
