Over two weeks, you and your fellow Academy NEXT students will work together to plan and execute projects that could make the world a better place using the latest technology. Whether you excel in coding, game development, artificial intelligence, data science, or machine learning, you’ll find your place on a team here.

Pitch a project that utilizes new technologies or leverages the skills you’ve mastered already to develop ideas for ground-breaking prototypes. Team up with your peers to brainstorm ideas, rapidly prototype a hackathon or game jam project, and then come together to collaborate with a group on a final capstone that combines all of your strengths to develop your dream project. The changemakers of tomorrow who take this program will have the freedom to build what they want, led by stellar iD Tech staff.

This premium course is application-only to hone in on the top talent among candidates.

You'll learn to:

  • Learn about emerging technologies, such as machine learning and industry-standard game engines, and how they can be leveraged
  • Work with a team to rapidly prototype projects and deliver a portfolio-worthy capstone
  • Integrate cutting-edge hardware, such as 3D printers, Raspberry Pi, or robotics kits, if it works into your vision

Course Format

This course is part of an intensive 2-week summer program running Monday through Friday (overnight at most locations with the option to stay the weekend within the two weeks). Your teen will learn in a lab on an inspiring university campus with a balanced daily schedule of assignment-driven workshops and outdoor/recreational activities. Courses are led by experienced instructors in a small-group setting. Learn more below.

Sample Schedule

In this course, students will develop a capstone project using cutting-edge technology. They will work through a product development process and then pitch their findings.

Here’s a sample of what a week in the course could look like! Please keep in mind that students will progress at varying paces; this is a general outline of key material and the overall student experience.

Students will work in groups to rapidly prototype and create a couple of projects. They'll research methods and ways that they can use technology to solve real-world problems. Then, they'll form teams and come up with a plan for their final capstone project, build the first iteration of their prototype, and explore different methods for doing so.

Students will work in teams on their final capstone project. They'll provide feedback to each other, iterate on their prototype, and continue to improve and change it to best suit their needs. Then, they'll create a pitch deck and present their final projects to the group.

FAQ

iD Tech Academies offer intensive, assignment-driven programming workshops in various course topics including machine learning, virtual reality, game development, robotics, and more. Programs are designed to be a rigorous, pre-college experience that provides industry insights for teens interested in pursuing STEM fields in college or as a career.

All graduates will leave their academy with a portfolio tailored to their course topic - which is invaluable for college applications, internships, and jobs - along with their iD Tech Diploma.

In the coming years, many companies like DeepMind and OpenAI hope to solve general artificial intelligence, which is a term for an AI that can learn and perform any task put in front of it. This breakthrough is likely still years in the future, but it has the potential to revolutionize how human beings interact with technology, the job market, and society in general.

In the shorter term, machine learning has practical business applications like analyzing large volumes of data, powering self-driving vehicles, and assisting medical diagnoses. As AI research advances, the number of tasks it can perform will only increase. Companies are already desperate for AI experts and aggressively hiring those with expertise in the field.

This course is taught by live iD Tech instructors who specialize in coding, game dev, robotics, and math, and are recruited from top universities like Stanford, Caltech, NYU, and Carnegie Mellon.

Within 7 days of registering for the course you will receive an email with a survey for your teen to complete. This survey should take 15-30 minutes to complete and you will hear back on the status of your application within 2 weeks.

In addition to specialized skills, teens leave their academy with a new network of friends and mentors, resilience, critical thinking opportunities, and official certification that stands out to admissions officers.

At the conclusion of the academy experience, teens will receive an official iD Tech diploma and course transcript outlining everything they learned during the program. They’ll also take home a USB with their course project files, along with access to installation and setup guides so they can continue working at their own pace.
