Introducing Entrepreneurship with Daymond John!

iD Tech in action

Explore entrepreneurship for kids with iD Tech and star of Shark Tank!

Every million dollar idea started as just a spark. Contrary to popular belief, however, that spark is the easy part; the hard work comes into play in nurturing, building, and developing that idea into fully-fledged fruition.

This is as true in tech as in any other industry, which is why we are so excited to announce a new course that teaches kids all about entrepreneurship, launching brands, and taking their brilliant ideas to the next level. This exciting virtual learning experience is formatted for teens in the Entrepreneurship course, and kids aged 10-12 in Startup Camp with Daymond John.

With the guidance of an iD Tech rockstar instructor, students will get the best expertise in the biz from Daymond John, legendary entrepreneur and star of Shark Tank! In addition to being a visionary businessman known for transforming a $40 startup budget into a company that generated $6 billion in revenue, he is passionate about empowering others to follow in his footsteps and make their dreams a reality.

Daymond John has inspired millions of viewers around the world, invested in successful businesses, written best-selling books, and guided countless aspiring entrepreneurs with great ideas. As he puts it, “Mentors, by far, are the most important aspects of businesses.”

We couldn’t agree more. With the right inspiration, anything is possible; we’ve seen it time and time again here at iD Tech!

Plus, now is the perfect time for kids to galvanize their creativity with a little expert guidance, and it’s never been easier to transform hobbies into profitable side hustles and fully-fledged business ventures. It’s amazing how many ways there are for kids to make money from home these days, and "kidtrepreneur" aka “kid entrepreneur” is a term we expect to see much more of in 2021 and beyond.

How to teach entrepreneurship to kids

In this course, kids will develop skill sets that are essential to any aspiring innovator or businessperson.

  • How to start a business as a kid
  • How to write a business plan and craft a perfect pitch
  • Financial literacy, investing, and budgeting skills
  • The art of negotiating
  • How to develop a marketing strategy
  • And more!

Students will get expert advice they can’t find anywhere else and have the opportunity to test out their knowledge in a collaborative Virtual Tech Camp environment. Great ideas can’t flourish in a vacuum, and the interactive element of the experience will encourage kids to refine their ideas to their full potential.

According to Daymond John, “No matter what business you’re in, business is business, and financing and money are critical. I would have made a lot fewer mistakes if I had more schooling in that area.” Our goal is to provide that foundational knowledge through a project-based learning experience that has real-world applications.

After all, project-based learning is key in navigating the ins and outs of being a successful entrepreneur, and both of these classes take this learning model to the next level.

Along the way, kids will take a closer look at inspirational brands and develop an entrepreneurial eye above and beyond the typical consumer. As Daymond John puts it, “Be inspired by the success of others, but don’t be intimidated by it.”  With that in mind, over the course of the weeklong program, kids will benefit from:

-Secrets of success from legendary entrepreneurs like Daymond John, Mark Cuban, Michael Dell, and Bill Gates

-In-depth brand studies

-Case studies of companies that are doing well by doing good and making the world a better place (Bombas, TOMS, Patagonia, Causemetics, Yoobi, and Newman’s Own)

Thanks to the interactive nature of this course, plus the real-world perspectives of industry giants, kids will learn that practice makes progress, and that success is as defined by learning from mistakes as it is the wins along the way.

In the wisdom of Daymond John, “Entrepreneurship is two steps forward, one step back. But no matter what, you have to keep stepping.” We’re here to help kids take those first steps in the path to entrepreneurship.

“Make it. Master it. Matter.” -Daymond John

“My mom always taught me that my day job would never make me rich; it’d be my homework.”

We couldn’t have said it better ourselves. Creativity and entrepreneurship is all about finding what you’re passionate about and growing that passion into something big.

That’s exactly what kids will accomplish in these Virtual Tech Camps. Using Adobe Suite, they’ll build a brand style guide, practice the art of negotiation and pitching, and develop the technical and creative skills to help transform their ideas into  business ideas.

By the end of the session, kids will have practiced what can take years to learn with the benefit of collaborative feedback and industry-tested advice. New knowledge (and perhaps a killer business idea) in hand, they’ll be ready to approach school, their hobbies, and life with a new outlook: one of a budding business leader.

We need more young entrepreneurs

93% of successful entrepreneurs started as children, so that begs the question: why aren’t there more kid entrepreneurs?

The fact is, despite the many benefits of learning about entrepreneurship from a young age, it isn’t included in most traditional K-12 curriculum. Like cutting-edge STEM education, too often it can be viewed as “extra” as opposed to essential.

What’s more, while 61% of kids look to their parents for financial advice, just 20% of parents feel confident in providing that guidance. There is a clear need for connecting the dots, and that’s where this course can help.

In a tech-driven world, there are an unprecedented number of avenues for kids to put their ideas out there and craft them into innovative, profitable ventures. Whether it’s through monetizing with Roblox, streaming a popular YouTube channel, or starting an online business, it’s never been more possible to innovate as a young person.

The next million dollar idea could just be noodling around in your kid’s imagination; let us help them make it into something awesome! With the expertise of The People’s Shark himself, curated curriculum, and the interactive Virtual Tech Camp atmosphere, there’s no telling where that idea can lead.
