Minecraft Modding with Java
Please note:
- At this time, Java Minecraft-based courses cannot be run on Chromebooks or iPads.
- A mouse is strongly recommended for this course.
- The download link we provide contains all the free software you'll need to start Minecraft modding, including the Minecraft Forge modding api, the Intellij IDE, and Java 1.8.
For Minecraft installations there’s an exact process to go through to get everything working. We provide all the resources you’ll need.
- Please follow this video tutorial (Windows / Mac) that covers the process. You can download the files below, and follow along.
When downloading or installing software, please make sure you don’t install it on the Cloud (MacOS), or OneDrive (Windows).
Minecraft Installation Package
Before your first class, follow these steps to get the installation package you need:
- Click the following link to download Java version of Minecraft (based on your operating system):
- Click the blue “Download” button.
- Because the size of the download is large, a message will pop up that says “Google Drive can’t scan this file for viruses”. Select Download Anyway.
- The download may take some time.
- Once the download is complete, move the zipped folder to your desktop, and let your student know where it’s saved so they can find it for guided installation.
- Or you can follow the video instructions linked above to install it yourself.
On the first day of class, the instructor will spend the first hour of course time helping students activate and become familiar with the software.
