About This Course

Take the lead by coding your own interactive games and video projects. With Scratch, you’ll create adventures that send you as far as space, blasting away the meteors in your path! Explore core concepts like variables, loops, and video sensing in a creative visual coding environment designed by the MIT Media Lab. Then, experiment with next-gen computer technology using Google’s Teachable Machine. You’ll build and test a machine learning model that can identify hand signs or dance moves with a webcam. Whether you dream of becoming a Python programmer or game developer, your journey starts here!

Course Format 

This Scratch camp is part of a weeklong summer course running Monday through Friday. Learning sessions will be held in a lab on an inspiring university campus. Your child will be placed within a small group and guided by an experienced instructor. Daily schedules are balanced and allow for outdoor and recreational activities. Day and overnight options are available based on location.

Sample Schedule

Here’s a sample of what a week in this Scratch summer camp could look like. Keep in mind students will progress at varying paces, and this is meant to serve as an outline of key materials and the overall experience. 

In Scratch, students will dive into visual coding fundamentals. They’ll build an interactive project using webcam video-sensing technology, such as waving their hands over on-screen sprites to make noise.

Building on their Scratch skills, students will design and code their own game. They’ll implement a variable score that tracks the player’s progress as they blast away a meteor field or compete against an automated computer player.

Get moving! In Teachable Machine, students will experiment with a machine learning model and video motion. They can build a model that recognizes unique dance moves or hand signs like rock, paper, and scissors.

Students will develop a project of their own design—whether their focus is coding, game creation, or video sensing. The possibilities are endless! They can further customize their project with sound effects and music.

To complete the week, students will wrap up their projects and playtest them with their peers at the showcase. They can share their Scratch games online where everyone can join in on the fun!

Scratch is a platform for kids to make games, but more educationally, it’s a tool for young minds to bring imagination and ideas to life with code. In fact, Scratch is one of the most popular “block-based coding” options out there, and it’s one of the best programming languages for kids.  Learn more about making games on Scratch.

Learning to code can seem intimidating at first, but Scratch removes that barrier for kids. With adorable characters and straightforward block-based coding, Scratch is the ultimate introduction to the wide world of programming! 

While we are a tech program with the goal of transforming your child’s interests into real-world STEM skills, we are also a summer camp. Simply put, camp is a balance of learning and fun! Students learn in small groups in labs on a prestigious college campus and from expert instructors who are trained to inspire and engage.

Day camps kick off with icebreakers and team-building before jumping into coursework for most of the morning. When it’s time for lunch, your child will walk from the computer lab to the dining hall as they take in the beauty of campus. Students return to the learning labs in the afternoon for more coursework, followed by an afternoon break where they will have the chance to take part in outdoor game time and more campus discovery before wrapping up with instruction!

Overnighters work until dinner, and are then off to create deeper connections and memories while gaming, watching movies, and more. All together, days and nights are filled with learning and adventure that builds lifelong friendships. 

Yes, this course is designed for beginner to advanced students. Our small class size ensures that each student receives individual attention and has the freedom to learn at their own pace. Instructors are trained to be in tune with students’ unique needs and provide a personalized learning experience. 

In addition to valuable tech skills, kids and teens leave camp with new relationships, resilience, critical thinking opportunities, and an even greater love for tech (if that’s possible!).

At the conclusion of your child's course, they will receive a transcript outlining everything they learned over the week. They’ll also take home an iD Tech t-shirt, water bottle, and a USB with their course project files, along with access to installation and setup guides so they can continue working at their own pace.

Yes! You can register today for as little as $375 per student, and pay the balance in convenient monthly installments. You can save $50 by registering for multiple sessions, and you can earn $25 in credit for each new friend referral (your friend saves $25 when they sign up too!). 

As courses frequently sell out, we recommend registering early to secure your child’s spot. You can make unlimited changes - with no fees - up to 14 days before the start of your session. If you need to cancel, you will receive a refund of the amount paid, less the payment plan fee (if applicable) and the deposit of $250 per week. No refunds are provided for cancellations made within 14 days of the start of your session.

If your child will be bringing a phone to camp, they’ll be able to access their device to update you on their adventures and take selfies with their new friends during break times.

While many kids can’t stop talking about their days at camp, others are kids of few words. Our camp staff are here to help, taking pictures of campers in action! Our photos page is regularly updated to showcase all of the fun taking place at camp.

During our Friday Family Showcase, loved ones get to see their camper’s final project while interacting with camp staff and learning about the week, skills gained, and more.
