  • Gain computational thinking skills

Course Format

This course is part of a weeklong virtual summer camp running Monday through Friday. Your child will learn online with a small group of other students, in sessions led by expert instructors. Each day includes two hours of live instruction and peer collaboration plus two hours of self-paced project development. Learn more below.

Sample Schedule

Here’s a sample of what a week in this course could look like. Keep in mind students will progress at varying paces, and this is meant to serve as an outline of key materials and the overall experience.

Explore Python fundamentals through an introduction to variables, conditional statements, loops, and more. Students will explore coding logic-based applications such as Mad Lib story with the option to program a Guess the Number game or a Fortune Teller game.

Building on their knowledge, students will delve deeper into Python programming and will explore the basics of machine learning and neural networks using TensorFlow.

Utilizing their advanced coding and computational thinking skills, students will begin exploring advancing AI technologies with OpenAI, such as ChatGPT. Students will build a customized AI-based chatbot system.

Next, students will learn how to fine-tune OpenAI models to optimize learning rates. Students will use these concepts to perform everyday tasks with artificial intelligence and learn how to generate text.

To wrap up the week, students will learn how to use AI to transcribe audio files. In addition, students will finish out strong with a solid understanding of Python programming, machine learning concepts, and new AI technologies.

Portfolio-Boosting Transcript

At the conclusion of your child's course, they will receive an official iD Tech transcript outlining the skills they learned over the course of the week.

FAQ

Python is one of a handful of great programming languages for kids, handling everything from web dev and game design to machine learning and AI. Not only is Python versatile and relatively easier to learn - thanks to its simplified syntax and focus on whitespace - it’s one of the most exciting and lucrative 21st century programming languages around.

By combining coding with creating arcade games and impressive AI tech, kids can add creativity with the logic of programming for a uniquely well-rounded learning experience. Experts agree that  Python is the most compatible programming language for machine learning and artificial intelligence.

While we are proud to offer world-class experiences on many of the world’s most prestigious university campuses, we also recognize that many families need the flexibility of quality virtual learning! It’s with these families in mind that we’ve adapted the core elements of our flagship camps to an online format with our Virtual Tech Camps.

Like our on-campus programs, Virtual Tech Camps feature structured small-group sessions led by expert instructors. Each week includes live teaching of our signature, cutting-edge curriculum, plus peer collaboration, social time, and independent project work. To complete the experience, our Virtual Tech Camps incorporate all the magic of summer camp including games, challenges, and legendary iD traditions!
