About This Course

Bring your BattleBots® robot champion home after camp with the all-new iD Tech robotics kit! You’ll build your own fighting robot from the ground up, starting with a motor-driven chassis. Construct your bot’s frame and give it life by wiring a programmable brain! Then, utilize 3D printing technology to design armor and attachments. Iterate and refine your handiwork as your bot faces off against your peers’ creations in a gauntlet of challenges such as racing, obstacle courses, and capture the flag. All your work will culminate in a BattleBots®-style tournament where the winner takes all! Need replacement parts? No problem—you can print backup components to keep your bot in fighting shape. And when the dust settles, you’ll pack up your robot and 3D-printed pieces to take home with you.

You'll learn to:

  • Build a robot with a take-home iD Tech robotics kit
  • Connect a motorized chassis to a programmable circuit board
  • Print armor and attachments with a 3D printer
  • Compete in a BattleBots®-style tournament

Course Format

This course is part of a weeklong summer camp running Monday through Friday. Learning sessions will be held in a lab on an inspiring university campus. Your child will be placed within a small group and guided by an experienced instructor. Daily schedules are balanced and allow for outdoor and recreational activities. Day and overnight options are available based on location.

Sample Schedule

Here’s a sample of what a week in this course could look like. Keep in mind students will progress at varying paces, and this is meant to serve as an outline of key materials and the overall experience.

Students will kick off the week by covering safety protocols and building a chassis for their bots. Then, they’ll begin wiring their bots and manufacturing parts with 3D-printing technology.

Building on their knowledge from day one, students will dive deeper into bot design by connecting Bluetooth controllers to their bots’ brains and assembling armor.

Utilizing their BattleBots® design and engineering skills, students will mount weapons to their bots. Then, they’ll use the best assessment and repair practices to upgrade their bot designs to the next level.

Finally, students will bring it all together in preparation for the final showdown! They’ll inspect their creations and make last-minute adjustments before heading to the BattleBox to see who will take home the title of champion.

To finish off the week, students will showcase their bots in a battle for their family and friends. Then, it’s time to wrap up and take their bots home, where they can continue to upgrade their creations!

Portfolio-Boosting Diploma & Transcript

At the conclusion of your child's course, they will receive an official iD Tech diploma and course transcript outlining the skills they learned over the course of the week.

FAQ

By building their own BattleBots® champion from scratch, programming its “brain,” and customizing it with 3D-printed armor, kids will experience the same creative problem-solving that real engineers and innovators use every day. The friendly competitions and final tournament foster resilience, teamwork, and iterative thinking—skills that transfer well beyond robotics. When your child walks away with their bot and custom pieces, they’re not only taking home a cool project, but also the confidence and mindset to tackle challenges, experiment boldly, and keep innovating!

While we are a tech program with the goal of transforming your child’s interests into real-world STEM skills, we are also a summer camp. Simply put, camp is a balance of learning and fun! Students learn in small groups in labs on a prestigious college campus and from expert instructors who are trained to inspire and engage.

Day camps kick off with icebreakers and team-building before jumping into coursework for most of the morning. When it’s time for lunch, your child will walk from the computer lab to the dining hall as they take in the beauty of campus. Students return to the learning labs in the afternoon for more coursework, followed by an afternoon break where they will have the chance to take part in outdoor game time and more campus discovery before wrapping up with instruction!

Overnighters work until dinner, and are then off to create deeper connections and memories while gaming, watching movies, and more. All together, days and nights are filled with learning and adventure that builds lifelong friendships.

Yes, this course is designed for beginner to advanced students. Our small class size ensures that each student receives individual attention and has the freedom to learn at their own pace. Instructors are trained to be in tune with students’ unique needs and provide a personalized learning experience.

In addition to valuable tech skills, kids and teens leave camp with new relationships, resilience, critical thinking opportunities, and an even greater love for tech (if that’s possible!).

At the conclusion of your child's course, they will receive an iD Tech diploma as well as a transcript outlining everything they learned over the week. They’ll also take home an iD Tech t-shirt and a USB with their course project files, along with access to installation and setup guides so they can continue working at their own pace.

While many kids can’t stop talking about their days at camp, others are kids of few words. Our camp staff are here to help, taking pictures of campers in action! Our photos page is regularly updated to showcase all of the fun taking place at camp.

During our Friday Family Showcase, loved ones get to see their camper’s final project while interacting with camp staff and learning about the week, skills gained, and more.
