Whether you're looking to lead a band of misfits to overthrow a corrupt sea captain, or acting the part of a world leader during a zombie apocalypse, you'll discover how to take charge and unify others. You’ll build props and design costumes for your character, and then embark on a journey with your friends as you collaborate with your team and build strong leadership skills. Sample Schedule

In this course, students will work with a team of their peers to craft a story of unique characters and direct their own live action roleplay. Along the way, they’ll cement their ideas by transforming their LARP into a game in RPG Maker.

Here’s a sample of what a week in the course could look like! Please keep in mind that students will progress at varying paces; this is a general outline of key material and the overall student experience.

Students will team up with their peers and begin building out their Game Design Document with concepts of their characters and world. They’ll start plotting maps in RPG Maker and fleshing out their character’s personality.

After drafting their story in Inky, students will design quests with branching paths using RPG Maker events and switches. With a completed character sheet in hand, students will build their own props and costumes out of foam, paint, and other tactile LARP materials.

Let the LARP begin! Students will split into groups, taking turns as the Game Master and directing the role play experience. Once the swords have been sheathed and quests ended, students will discuss what they’ve learned and how to implement their real-world experience into their RPG Maker game.

After returning to their computers, students will begin finalizing the story and events of their game by diving deeper into concepts like variables and conditional statements. They’ll learn how to design puzzles, dungeons, and custom in-game items based on the props they’ve built by hand.

To wrap up the week, students will polish their games and add finishing touches like cutscenes, music, and battles. They’ll beta-test their project with their peers at the showcase in preparation for taking all of their files and handmade props home with them.

Portfolio-Boosting Diploma & Transcript

At the conclusion of your child's course, they will receive an official iD Tech diploma and course transcript outlining the skills they learned over the course of the week.
