About the Rochester Area
The city of Rochester was first settled in 1817, attracting pioneers due to its proximity to Paint Creek, Stoney Creek, and the Clinton River (all of which powered mills that produced valuable resources). Today, the city is an idyllic mix of trendy and historic, drawing in locals and visitors from across Michigan. Downtown Rochester encompasses over 350 shops, eateries, salons, and small businesses, 85% of which are independently owned and operated. The Rochester area's natural beauty is abundant, from the waterways that encircle the city to the miles of green, open space, and lovely parks.
