About the Hartford Area

Hartford, the capital of Connecticut, has a rich, 400-year-long history as one of the oldest cities in the nation. The area is known for its beautiful public parks, historic buildings, museums, and architecture, and for being the hometown of literary giant, Mark Twain. In the late 1800's, the city also served as a center for abolitionist activity. Today, the city is divided into multiple districts including the diverse downtown area, Parkville, Frog Hollow, Asylum Hill, the West End, the North East (home to "Little Italy"), the South Meadows, the North Meadows, Blue Hills, and more. Notable landmarks include the Mark Twain House, where the author lived and penned his most renowned works, Wadsworth Atheneum, the oldest art museum in the U.S., and gorgeous Bushnell Park.
