About the Danbury Area

Nestled in Fairfield County about 70 miles from New York City, Danbury is the 7th most populated city in Connecticut. Danbury was named after the hometown of many of its early settles—Danbury, Essex, in England. It has also been nicknamed "Hat City," because at one point, a quarter of the nation's hats were produced within its boundaries. Danbury locals enjoy an abundance of hiking trails including those in the Bear Mountain Reservation and Ives Trail, and many regional parks including Danbury Candlewood Park, Elmwood Park, Rogers Park, Highland Avenue Park, and more. The city and surrounding areas have been featured in numerous television series and films over the years (eg. Seinfeld and 30 Rock). Notable Danbury residents include Tracy Chapman (musician), Charles Ives (composer), Maurice Sendak (children's author), Beverly Sills (opera singer), and many others.
