3D Modeling: Environment Art with Autodesk Maya

Course Description

Jumpstart your career as an Environment Artist in this elite Academy experience.

In week one, learn how to 3D model game assets using Autodesk Maya. Create highly detailed environmental assets like scenery, furniture, and machines to show your vision of the game world. Using texture work, take your environment models from gray and bland to deserted and devastated or even lush and futuristic. Finish the week with game design theory as you brainstorm how to establish a consistent art style and scope your projects.

In week two, dig into your role as you launch an indie studio with your team and work together to bring your combined vision to life. Design your environments with hand-drawn or digital concept art and refine your modeling techniques as you prep to show off your fully realized artistic vision.

In this course, your student will:

  • Build levels and environments using geometry
  • Create and use custom textures
  • Unwrap and texture models to create unique assets
  • Import assets created in Autodesk Maya into a level designed with Unreal Engine 4
  • Implement source control techniques to effectively work in a team

Your student will take home:

  • Project files
  • Completed game
  • Digital portfolio for college admissions
