Tips for a happy, healthy work environment

Can you believe it’s the end of May already?

Before we knew it, chatter had filled our Client Services Department, and we could feel that camper spirit coming alive in the office… and then it hit us... yep, it’s about that time! Summer is upon us. Our first tech camp opens soon!

As we prepare for camp, one thing we always remind ourselves is to take care of each other. The only way to operate a successful business is to operate as a team, and make sure we aren’t getting burnt out early in the season.

It just so happens that the month where we start to hit our peak season is also Mental Health Awareness Month. How do we create a balance between the two to ensure our employees are taking care of themselves during the busiest time of the year?

Below are some things we have found to be helpful for our team, and hope you can identify some that may work for yours.

  1. Daily meditation led twice a day by one of our Culture Club members
  2. Bi-Monthly yoga taught by a certified yoga instructor (nameste)
  3. Monthly volunteer days (giving back feels good!)
  4. Office events such as: potlucks, cornhole tournaments, Pretzel Day (yes, it’s a real thing), ice cream/coffee socials and more

We also have a flexible work environment, where at any given time an employee could be working out of a bean bag chair in the lounge, breaking up the day with a game of ping pong, or challenging a coworker to a match of Super Smash Bros (or other type of video game). It’s amazing what just a small amount of time away from your desk can do for you!

At the end of the day, a lot of creating this balance at work comes down to the amazing people that add to your culture and as an employer, ensuring there's a supportive environment in place. For iD Tech, we see authenticity (one of our core values) shine a lot in our iDers when it comes to taking care of one another.

For example, when one department has had a rough day or week, people notice and act! A lot of the time, that action looks like a surprise coffee delivery with snacks, or just a simple shout out saying, “Hey you all are doing great!” and it goes a long way.

The tips above are just small things you can implement into your workday or office culture to make the busy season feel like a breeze or the slow times super fun!

We are by no means experts when it comes to mental health awareness, but being a part of iD Tech, we truly care for every individual here, and look out for each other like family. After all, we are a family-founded company, and those ethics have been instilled in us since the beginning.
