NBC Ch 29 visits iD Tech Camps held at the University of Virginia

UVA Camp Hones Technological Skills

A high-tech summer camp at the University of Virginia is preparing kids and teens for computer careers.

Thirty-nine students are spending the week in the computer labs on grounds as part of the iD Tech Camps program. They’re designing video games and writing computer program codes.

Camp directors say developing those skills now will help these students succeed in the “stem” -science, technology, engineering and math – fields.

“These kids are really getting hands-on experience and real-world experience in being able to use these programs that allow them to advance their abilities and skills. So when they’re applying to colleges they have those skills already there that they can build off of,” said Laura Dowd, director at UVA iD Tech Camps.

“Campers range in age from 7 to 17 and come from all across the region. This is the camp’s ninth year at UVA…”
