iD Tech named "Top Workplace"—another reason to celebrate our 20th summer!

iD Tech in action

This year is an exciting year for iD Tech—our first program ran in 1999, which makes this summer our 20th!

Did you know that the first summer we ran camp, we had just 280 students and four locations? With determination, hard work, and a dream, we have now grown to over 150 locations (domestic and international) with over 50,000 students attending annually!

However, this being our 20th summer isn’t the only reason we’re celebrating....

iD Tech has also been named a Top Workplace this year by the Bay Area News Group. This is our eighth time receiving this award, and we couldn’t be more proud of our amazing staff for making the company what it is today!

To honor this year being a milestone for us, our founders, Alexa Ingram-Cauchi and Kathryn Ingram, took some time to share their favorite memories and what they are looking forward to the most in the coming years!

From Alexa Ingram-Cauchi, Co-Founder

Alexa reminisced on how it felt to start iD Tech and the support that she received from family and friends. She’s also excited for the future of the company, and continuing to grow our impact on the younger generation.

What is your favorite memory from the first few summers of iD Tech?
“Since this was my second run at starting a kids' tech education company, for me it was seeing my friends and family rally behind iD Tech and finding that 'internalDrive' to make this venture even more successful than the last. It seems like just yesterday. We knew our values and held ourselves to a high standard knowing that parents were entrusting us with their children. Glass ceilings were meant to be shattered!”

Thinking forward to the next 20 years, what are you most excited for?
“I am excited to know that iD has become a household name and by doing so, will continue to help guide technology going forward. We have and will continue to shape the leaders of tomorrow. No harm in that legacy! We must continue to lead by example.”

As a co-founder of iD Tech, what accomplishment has made you the most proud?
“I am forever grateful that I have been able to be part of something bigger than myself... something that makes a difference in peoples' lives. So many people live their lives without purpose. Someday when my kids look back at my life's accomplishments, I want them to remember that ‘It only takes one seed to plant a forest of change.’ I will forever live by this motto.”

The early days of iD Tech!

With 20 summers and eight Top Workplace awards under our belt, we are more excited than ever for the future. As Alexa said, we will continue to shape the leaders of tomorrow and as the world of technology is forever changing, we will adapt as well.

From Kathryn Ingram, Co-Founder

As you will read below, our other co-founder, Kathryn, reflected on a fond memory of iD Tech’s beginning and shared the passion we hold for excellence and setting the standard for tech education.

“A memory that keeps me amused all these years... I'm directing a new program at Cal State University at Monterey Bay... long time ago... it's 4th of July holiday... got to do something exciting. We hike over to the beach (all my instructors, too)... a student knocks his contact out... he says his parents will be furious with him. It's dusk... we are ALL down on hands and knees, IN THE SAND, furiously trying to save this little guy's honor, and knowing how ridiculous a task. Hearing how hard we all tried, the parents were amused and understanding.

I think that epitomizes our iD Advantage: We DO try harder. Our willingness to push for excellence, to set the standard, to cherish our place in the world, to educate with humor and superior skill sets, to listen, to nurture. We explore a college campus—the feel of it—the dorms, the food. We supply a myriad of choices for different kids' different brains. And we welcome the girls, in a different way than I tackled 20 years ago.”

Kathryn, Pete, and Alexa

Kathryn’s memory is one that shows our commitment to our students from the very start of iD Tech—even in an unconventional way—but that has also set the standard for excellence. That standard includes evolving our business in whatever ways we need to in order to make sure our students who attend our programs get the most up-to-date, fresh, cutting-edge technology instruction.

A current example of that can be seen with our new partnership with Epic Games, which allows us to be the only tech camp that can teach Unreal Engine to students! That’s huge! How huge you may ask? Well, Unreal Engine is behind wildly popular video games like Fortnite, Gears of War, and Unreal Tournament. Being able to teach our students the technology behind these video games is, well, unreal… pun intended!

As you can tell, much has changed since our very first summer. However, we will never stop trying to be better than last season! We have a lot more changes, iDeas, and plans for the future of iD Tech. However, it is important to note, that none of this would have been possible without the amazing summer staff, corporate employees, talented students, and amazing clients.

Our success is your success, and the future success of every child that attends our camps.
