Radiate your vision with style and substance. All girls enrolled at the Café will learn about 1-for-1 social movements; stylish, game-changing brands; and real-world entrepreneurship and leadership, all the while being challenged to incorporate technology to make a difference. It’s not just about building a webpage or learning to code HTML; it’s about creating a passionate vision to inspire and help others in our local communities and beyond our borders.
Design Barista introduces girls ages 10-12 to STEM principles that set the foundation for artistic futures in fields like web design, graphic design, photography, and more. Using the latest graphic design software and high-end DSLR cameras, all girls in these web design camps learn how to create a website and take high quality photos. Students of all skill levels leave the program with completed projects they can be proud of.
Why Alexa Café?
Alexa Café, named after iD Tech co-founder Alexa Ingram-Cauchi, was designed with girls ages 10-15 in mind. While all iD Tech programs are great for girls, we acknowledge the pervasive STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) gender gap, and seek to remedy it with a chic, collaborative learning environment focused on girls. The Café emphasizes leadership, entrepreneurship, brand identity, and philanthropy, with STEM subjects creatively woven into the curriculum.
Code.org reports that while over 50% of the U.S. population is female, women make up fewer than 14% of Computer Science undergrads. Similarly, women comprise nearly half of the U.S. labor force, but hold only 4.6% of top leadership positions (according to catalyst.org). Many girls are missing out on future STEM careers and big opportunities to innovate and create change. Alexa Café is not about special treatment for girls. It's about fostering leadership and tech skills in a fresh setting that's unlike anything else. For a more detailed program overview, please visit AlexaCafe.com.

- Is Alexa Café for girls only?
Yes–Alexa Café was designed with girls ages 10-14 in mind. While all iD Tech programs are great for girls, we acknowledge the pervasive STEM gender gap, and seek to remedy it with a chic, collaborative learning environment focused on girls. Code.org reports that while over 50% of the U.S. population is female, women make up fewer than 14% of Computer Science undergrads. Similarly, women comprise nearly half of the U.S. labor force, but hold only 4.6% of top leadership positions (according to catalyst.org). - What are the origins of the Alexa Café name?
Alexa Café is named after iD Tech co-founder Alexa Ingram-Cauchi–a woman of true entrepreneurial spirit. In 1999, Alexa and her mother, Kathryn, started the company together (a rarity, even in progressive Silicon Valley), in a studio above their garage. Alexa’s journey at iD Tech embodies the traits we emphasize at the Café: leadership, entrepreneurship, brand identity, philanthropy, and STEM.
- If my student is already registered for iD Tech, can she switch to Alexa Café?
- Can you tell me more about your flex hours?

Balance is the key to every week at Alexa Café–we make time for a variety of outdoor activities, optional sports, and games.
- Where do your instructors come from?
Our staff is family. Each member of our team comes to us with a blend of spirit, energy, enthusiasm, knowledge of technology, and experience with kids and teens. Our goal is to ensure that every location is comprised of skillful, returning camp counselors along with new instructors who bring a fresh perspective to camp. Many of our instructors are graduate and undergraduate students in Education, Engineering, Computer Science, Film, Programming, and other related fields. Often, these instructors come from the same recognized universities where we host our summer programs including Stanford, MIT and Columbia University. Staff members undergo in-person training as well as extensive background checks each summer. We have a great crew that comes back year after year to create a unique and high-energy environment.
- Why don’t you use Counselors-in-Training?
Distinguishing ourselves from most summer camps, we’ve respectfully created a “No CIT” policy. This guarantees that each student is instructed and supervised by paid adult staff members, ages 18 and older—not by teenagers of camp age.
- Do you provide transportation for students?
We do not arrange transportation for our students. All transportation to and from camp is the responsibility of the parent/guardian. There are child transportation services that past campers have utilized, which can be found through a web search. We are not affiliated with any such company and thus cannot be held accountable for clients’ use of outside transportation services.
