Meet Gaby

This iD Tech alumna is now a television commercial editor living in New York City!

Before YouTube and many of the tech tools campers are using in “today’s” summer programs, Gaby became “hooked” on video production after attending iD Tech Camps. Now a TV commercial editor living in New York City, she hasn’t forgotten the impact one summer experience had on her interests and professional career.

Gaby earned a degree in Film Studies and Creative Writing from Vanderbilt University, and moved to New York City to chase her dream of becoming a video producer—a dream kick started after completing a digital video course at iD Tech Camps.

“The iD Tech Camps program I attended gave me the opportunity to simply ‘start.’ I would have never known where to begin at age 12 with video production, nor would I have really known it was an option to be able to experiment with cameras and computer software for fun. I was introduced to a creative outlet that fit my style at a very young age; this gave me many years of growing in the field and reaching a full-time career by my mid-20s.”

That career has seen Gaby as a video producer for several years now, allowing her to take on a number of roles in production, from technical to creative. The commercial production company where she is employed produces TV spots for use all over the world.

And while she is proud of her work in NYC, Gaby also boasts the great experiences she has had with another employer—iD Tech Camps. Yes, both a student AND camp instructor, Gaby has seen iD Tech Camps (and iD Visual Arts Academy) from both sides. She taught iD Film Studios 101 and Visual FX at both the NYU and Princeton Academy locations.

“This was hands down my favorite summer experience as an adult. The time spent teaching the kids and working with a fantastic curriculum for video production was unforgettable. I’m incredibly proud to say I’m a part of this iD family as a former camper and recent instructor. The teens for every session I had were incredibly smart, creative, and dedicated. I don’t mean to sound dramatic, but I sincerely hope I was able to inspire at least one of my own campers the way I was because the influence was positively life-changing!”

For Gaby, iD Tech Camps stimulated a creative outpouring of ideas, which ultimately led to where she finds herself today. She has “always credited (her) start in video production to iD Tech Camps” and is now using the skills she learned years ago as a camper to enjoy a rewarding career in video production.
